One of our all-time favourite projects we’ve worked on so far is the beach bucket we made for Meraas’ The Beach, JBR. The client had an ambitious idea in mind: to create a larger-than-life beach bucket, the top of the overturned bucket should have a QR code engraved into it, so when the sun shines through, the QR code shadow forms on the platform, allowing visitors to follow the code.

This was tricky—we needed to find and mold a material that was strong enough to hold its own weight, withstand the near 50°C temperatures of the Dubai summer, not just for one season but for several years, and still be cut into the shape of the QR code on the top side. So, what did we do?

What we do best—brainstorm, create samples, and experiment with different options for a week. Our clients know they can rest assured that when they come to us with a unique concept, we’ll find a way to make it work. And voilà, a week later, we had a proposal for the winning material—fiberglass.

Our team of expert fabricators got the prerequisites cleared for local build-up approval, including wind load calculation, method statements, risk assessments, and what have you. Technical drawings were next up for approval. When it came to the actual production, like a choreographed act, the materials came together and fell into place to create a beautiful structure—the overturned bucket casting a QR code in the sunlight.

Our client liked it so much, they kept it for years, getting paint touch-ups and graphic changes every season. Today, it’s still one of our favourite projects.
